After a well-deserved break following a redundancy in August 2018, I was contemplating whether to continue my career in the HR field. The last 10 years had been tough dealing with the constant pressures involved in a busy and ever-evolving HR role… us HR bods deserve a medal sometimes ????

When Jo approached me to consider joining her at Trapeze in a consultancy role, the challenge appealed to me and in November 2018 my journey commenced.

Refreshingly, I had entered a culture where there were minimal KPIs and targets expected of me. This is unheard of nowadays! Jo’s model and philosophy is that our focus is about maintaining our existing relationships, working to fulfill our current clients’ requirements and where time allows to acquire and develop new clients. Life is all about balance, after all.

I love the fast-paced nature of the role and the ‘fastest finger first’ culture as I am naturally a competitive individual, however, it is always the candidate and client interaction that is the most appealing for me in any role.  Of course, there is competition in the recruitment game, but for me it is about delivering a positive service and leaving a lasting impression for all the right reasons.

Possessing an extensive background within in-house recruitment processes and having previously been on the receiving end of agency engagement (or attempted engagement), I feel I have been able to demonstrate empathy when corresponding with other HR professionals within my new role, now the shoe is on the other foot.

Having worked on the ‘other side’ and also having received some less than satisfactory service when dealing with agencies myself as a candidate, I was determined to use my experiences in a positive way to ensure that all my candidates received only the very best personal service I could deliver.

I’ve made it my mission to bring the ‘human’ element into everything I do and I think my success so far has proven that it’s been worthwhile presenting this ethos.  It has been lovely to receive some genuine and personally written heartfelt testimonials from candidates who have gone on to recommend our services to friends and family. Word of mouth is a very strong form of advertising as it is based on personal experiences, and I am honoured to have been the reason for some people spreading the word about Trapeze Recruitment.

Now 6 months into my not-so-new role and I am feeling settled, engaged and motivated to keep achieving. Not every day goes according to plan and not everything goes our way, but that’s life and I am happy to say that even when these low points occur, we still know we tried our best for the candidates and clients and we’ve stayed true to ourselves.
