Product Designer (Ref: JO2106)

Job Summary 

Working for a globally recognised brand within the toy industry, you will and design and develop new products within the range.

General duties to include 

  • Use both information and data supplied by the research team and additional self-researched material to achieve maximum authenticity/appeal.
  • Understand and design according to the needs and requirements of a wide range of end users from child, beginners to the hobby right through to expert/enthusiasts.
  • Design products which consider ease, speed and therefore cost of manufacture.
  • Design and comply with the business design standards
  • Design products which consider the cost of tooling for manufacture.
  • Design products to comply with the target unit cost issued within brief
  • Ensure that design projects follow a pre-agreed time schedule with efficiency.
  • Ensure that design projects are fully documented and archived.
  • Liaise with and supply information and images to the licensing team to achieve licence approvals.
  • Liaise with HK team, vendors or mould makers to develop new moulds to production standard.
  • Liaise with the HK team and vendors to ensure maximum quality of new projects.
  • Liaise with and supply information and images to others within the business to facilitate added online, forum, social and marketing exposure.
  • Liaise with and supply information and images to the marketing team to assist the creation of catalogues, publicity materials, exhibitions, websites and social media.
  • Feed into the business new product development ideas and innovations.
  • Prepare and present presentations to various modelling clubs, societies and at shows based around the product, brand and the development process.

Key Skills and Experience

  • CAD modelling skills
  • A natural ability and desire to innovate and share new ideas
  • Willingness to acquire knowledge about the subjects modelled
  • Ability to work as part of a team and initiative to work independently
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Willingness to work in a busy office
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Effective written, documentation and presentation skills
  • Confidence to engage all levels within the business
  • The desire to make a difference and a willingness to learn by experience
